My career in professional skin care began in 1980 after I received my California aesthetician license. Prior to my licensure and years thereafter, I established a professional relationship with Dr. Hale Tolleth F.A.C.S. in the San Francisco Bay area to help provide assistance in post-surgical skin rehabilitation after surgery. This fulfilling privilege to aid patients with traumatized skin led me down a rewarding path to facilitate facial physiotherapy for burn survivors, accident victims, clients with birth mark challenges, dermatological problems, and pre- and post-operative conditions. The skin care industry has been good to me and my loyalty will always be to the professional aesthetician. My aesthetic expedition approach has always been that education is not a destination, but a journey. Each of these incredible appointments and accomplishments are part of my career DNA. I am always humbled by what I learn from other individuals as these experiences fuels my passion for the skin care industry to educate our present and future aesthetician that will also bring them success. Knowledge pursuant to the sciences and discoveries to the cell's life extension; I love this field of the sciences! Over the years, I have found that education is a way for me to stay informed. It is a powerful and one of your best tools to adapt to almost anything. I have no regrets; however, I believe we all have experienced an epiphany "I wish I would have done that differently!" For instance, one thing I would have done in a different way is I would have gone into forensic cell science for my degree. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that a majority of licensed aestheticians do not seek higher levels of education for their profession and settle for mediocre to just get by. I call this lazy aesthetics and regardless of the treatment, there can be a moment where it can all go wrong. Client education is also imperative. Navigating through all the "noise" in the skin care industry with silly claims and nonsense can be challenging because promises are cheap. My recommendation to consumers is to investigate the companies and do a thorough comparison to ensure who they choose will fit all of their needs for education, training, marketing, end point product results, treatments, profit margin, customer service, and, most importantly, how the company will develop a true partnership with their business … to help make them successful!Want to read more?
